Snake River Headwaters Symposium
Science, Stewardship, and Management for the Future
April 17, 2026 | Jackson, WY
Agencies, nonprofits, businesses, water users, scientists, and community members gathered for a full day of learning, connection, and collaboration for the Snake River Headwaters.
About the Symposium
The Snake River Headwaters Symposium is a public event hosted by the Snake River Headwaters Watershed Group, bringing together a broad coalition of partners dedicated to the long-term health and resilience of our watershed.
This full-day gathering creates a space for scientists, water users, agencies, nonprofits, businesses, guides and outfitters, Tribal representatives, and community members to learn from one another and explore the most pressing issues facing the watershed.
Through presentations, panels, workshops, and networking opportunities, participants will dive into topics such as:
Water management, agriculture, and irrigation
Conservation, recreation, and responsible access
Ecosystem restoration and climate resilience
Water quality and community health
Regional lessons from the Colorado River
Together, we will build understanding, strengthen relationships, and inspire collective action to sustain this vital ecosystem.
The Snake River Headwaters, A Reason to Come Together
The Snake River Headwaters are the ecological, cultural, and economic backbone of our region. Originating in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks and flowing through working lands, forests, and communities, this watershed provides clean drinking water, supports world-class fisheries and wildlife, fuels recreation and tourism, and shapes the identity of Jackson Hole.
It is home to one of the last strongholds of Snake River cutthroat trout in their native range, attracts anglers and boaters from around the world, and supplies water to farms and families throughout Wyoming and Idaho.
Yet this system faces mounting pressures, from water quality concerns to aging infrastructure to the impacts of a changing climate. Addressing these complex challenges requires shared understanding, inclusive dialogue, and collaborative, science-based solutions.
Keynote Speaker: Kevin Fedarko
Author of The Emerald Mile and A Walk in the Park
We are honored to welcome Kevin Fedarko as our keynote speaker. Fedarko — acclaimed author, storyteller, and river advocate — brings a rare blend of adventure and conservation insight. His work on the Colorado River offers powerful lessons about resilience, partnership, and the urgent need to protect fragile headwaters systems across the West.
Through gripping storytelling and lessons from the Colorado River, Fedarko will spark conversation about what the Snake can learn from other iconic watersheds.
